Scorpion Vision Software 5.0 is available

Scorpion Vision Software 5.0 is a result of our continuous development to help vision engineers making faster, more reliable and advanced machine vision application.

In Scorpion 5.0 there are more than ten new and powerful tools. Feature Classification, Dynamic Thresholds and Polygon Model Wizard are very important features that are included in new and many existing tools.

The most important new tools are:

  • Blob4 - enhanced with Polygon Model Wizard and Shape Classification
  • ColorAnalyzer - measure size and position of color objects
  • SurfaceAnalyzer - combines color, texture and shape classification
  • PolylineEdgeFaults2 - enhanced with Polygon Model Wizard and Feature Classification
  • Classifier - powerful fuzzy logic distance based classifier
  • ChangeReference - included to dynamically scale the reference system in robot vision applications
  • PolygonMatch2 - enhanced with dynamic threshold and Polygon Model Wizard locates models faster and more reliable
  • LineFinder2 - enhanced with dynamic thresholds, perpendicular trace lines and optimal traceline filters
  • Toolbox tool with companion tools DataImport and ToolImport makes maintaining and building large profiles faster. 

In addition the Scorpion Framework is faster, more reliable, the camera support, documentation and help system is improved and camera drivers updated. Scorpion is enhanced with hundreds of new important features since version 4.

Sony SmartCam Scorpion Standard Version 5 Introduction Offer at 3950 €

We have added new features to support the XCI-SX1 Sony SmartCam including a special Scorpion XP Embedded Image with the Scorpion framework installed.

The Sony SmartCam running Scorpion Vision Software® is specially well suited for robot vision applications. The camera is directly mounted to the robot communicating over RS-232 or tcp/ip.

Automotive casting parts are reliably located with mm accuracy with the Sony SmartCam. This is the result of 6th order lens calibration, adaptive thresholds, redundant six point robot calibration and robust and sub-pixel object location based on PolygonMatch™ technology resolving scale, rotation and perspective.

 

Scorpion Vision Software® used in SmartCam is the same software as used in advanced PC based vision systems. This makes an eventual upgrade quick and easy. Multiple SmartCams are maintained over tcp/ip from a PC running the Scorpion Maintenance software.

Print Inspection Made Easy with Polygon Model Wizard

The new Polygon Model Wizard included in the following tools: Blob4, PolyLineEdgeFaults2 and PolygonMatch™ makes teaching fast and easy.

The Blob4 Polygon Model Wizard works while the user points at an object or at the edge of an object tracing the object with an optimal polygon model.

All Polygon tools in Scorpion works with sub pixel accuracy and reflects scaling, rotation, translation and perspective in the incoming reference system.
 

Scorpion Desktop AOI is now available with Scorpion 5

The Scorpion Desktop AOI systems target the electronics and plastic industries. The systems are based upon Scorpion Vision Software, Digital Firewire Cameras and Sony Desktop Robots.

Targetting the electronics industry the AOI systems has the following features:

  • Fast teaching - One component per minute
  • Inspects circuit boards / components with size up to 350 x 350 mm
  • User defined resolution from 1 micron to 0.1 mm
  • Colour and BW inspection are available
  • Sub-pixel location of low contrast fiducials
  • High inspection rate

Example Application: Component Location, Orientation and Presence with High Resolution

Inspection of two hundred components teached in two hours. 12 images inspected in 12 seconds with a Sony SmartCam XCI-1. The Smart Camera offers a sharp high-quality 1280 x 1024 pixels images. The board is inspected with a 0.01 mm pixel resolution. 


SurfaceAnalyzer - A unique tool for Colour, Texture and Shape Classification of Multiple Objects

The SurfaceAnalyzer is a supertool performing colour, texture and shape classification in one single tool. Here the size, position, colour and shape class is calculated for multiple fruit objects.


Powerful Integrated Line Tracing and Polygon Model Wizard in Polygon Tools

Scorpion's polygon tools are enhanced with a set of interative wizard to speed up, improve accuracy of the polygon models. This will open up new application areas for Scorpion Vision Software in Circuit Board Verification, Plastic Industries, Printing and were high precision shape verification is needed.

PolyLineGapFinder Line Tracing Wizard puts the polygon on a light or dark band while the user is clicking in the image

TemplateFinder3 locates objects with more robustly and with higher precision with models built by Polygon Model Wizard

A unique Innovation with Scorpion 5 - Feature Classification

Great news in Scorpion 5 is feature classification. There is a new tool Classifier that easily lets you combine multiple results into a decision. The same classification system is added to the most advanced tools: LineFinder2, Blob4 and SurfaceAnalyzer.

As an example feature classification makes Blob4 and SurfaceAnalyzer more powerful because it accepts only blobs with a certain shape and size. Below the enhanced Blob4 are able to return only the blobs found on the inside.

Using Feature Classification Blob Analysis, it is possible to locate only the area interior of the rings.
Thus robustly counting and locating the rings.
The classification features are circularity, area, width and length.


Dynamic Thresholds in LineFinders and PolygonMatch™ based tools.

The new dynamic threshold for Scorpion trace lines is a big improvement in low-contrast edge detection. This feature is added to PolygonMatch™, LineFinder2, TemplateFinder3 and PolyLineEdgeFaults2.

Higher Inspection Rates - OCV at 820 image / minutes

Improved speed - Optical Character Verification on Beer Cans at 820 cans / minute with a hardware-triggered Sony V50 bw firewire camera.
OCV based on PolygonMatch™ technology.

Upgrading to Scorpion Version 5.0

Scorpion Vision Software 5.0 released in September 2006, is a major release of Scorpion.

The following points apply when you upgrade your existing Scorpion Vision Software solution to 5.0:

  • Version 5.0 will not accept version 3 and 4 licences.
  • Licences purchased after August 1, 2006 can be upgraded free of charge before November 30, 2006.
  • Upgrades must be purchased from Tordivel AS: 10-097 Scorpion Vision Software Version Upgrade
