Firewire Imaging - Low cost digital cameras connected to a PC using DirectX is a powerful trend in Industrial Inspection. We and our partners are at the moment deploying many very cost-effective firewire imaging multi-camera systems in the automotive and wood industry. We experience a growing demand and interest for our unique and open software vision system.
New - Scorpion Applications targetting the Wood Industry
The following new products are now released:
- Scorpion Color Identification System
- Scorpion Laser Length Measurement System
- Scorpion Laser Profile Measurement
These fine products are complete Vision Systems available at a very competitive price solving common tasks in the Wood Industry.
The Laser Length Measurement System measure the length of a wooden piece with mm accuracy.
The Color Identification system can sort colored items at a rate up to 15 items/second. It is very easy to train with a set of reference images. The system is a lot more powerful than color sensors - identifying the color of an area and it's coverage in %.
The Laser Profile Measurement System verifies wood profiles with high accuracy. Below a typical application and setup is shown. The profile of an mdf-board is verified with an accuracy better than 0.1mm. In-line the system is capable of operating with speeds up to 3 m/s and 15 inspections/second. The black image below shows how the laser line is projected on the mdf edge.
All systems are enclosed in a Metal Enclosure and connected to a PC.

Supporting VisiWear EX and Waterproof Cameras
We are proud to announce support for Visiwear's range of innovative cameras with the following features:
- Up to 8 cameras can be connected to one Scorpion System
- All camera parameters are controlled using the Visca protocol
- Cable lengths from 2.5 to 100 meters are supported
VisiWear EX-CAM-A - is the worlds smallest Intrinsically safe camera. The camera is extremely rugged, but at the same time lightweight, featuring autofocus and 40X zoom.
VisiWear ST-CAM-A is a waterproof/IP68, rugged autofocus zoom camera, which features a light weight aluminium housing, stained/impact proof lens glass and extended temperature ranges.
VisiWear ST-CAM-B is the worlds smallest autofocus/zoom video camera. The camera is waterproof/IP68, rugged and features a lightweight aluminium housing.
The combination of the rugged Visiwear Cameras and Scorpion Vision Software provides new opportunities for Vision in heavy industries.

Free Remote Control Software - RealVNC
We use and recommend RealVNC for remote control of Scorpion Solutions. This is the original open-source cross-platform remote control solution. Why use RealVNC?
- It is fully cross-platform. There is a Java viewer, thus any desktop can be viewed with any Java-capable browser. There is a Windows server, allowing you to view the desktop of a remote Windows machine on any platform with a simple viewer.
- It is small and simple. The Windows viewer, for example, is about 150K in size and can be run directly from a floppy.
- It is free! You can download it, use it, and redistribute it under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
It is tested and found compatible with Scorpion Versions 2.0 and 3.0 on Windows-2000 and XP.
